  • Error (Mistake): A human action that produces an incorrect result Developer uses > instead of >=
  • Defect (Bug, Fault): A flaw in a work product, such as source code or requirements Incorrect comparison exists in the code
  • Failure: System behaviour deviates from the expected result A valid 18-year-old user is refused access
  • Root cause: The fundamental reason the problem occurred The age boundary requirement was misunderstood
• VV:
  • Verification: did we build things right, meet specified requirements
  • Validation: did we build the right thing, suitabe for intended use).
• Shift left: Move testing early, static (analysis) testing.
